New Accolades for Croatian Tourism and Gastronomy as New Michelin Stars Are Bestowed to Croatia!

Pelegrini in Šibenik and Restaurant 360° in Dubrovnik gained one star and joined Monte in Rovinj as the only three Croatian restaurants with Michelin Stars

Zagreb, Croatia and New York, New York – March 2, 2018 – Pelegrini based in Šibenik and 360º situated in Dubrovnik became one-Michelin-starred restaurants, while the list of restaurants that met Michelin strict criteria and attained a prestigious crossed knife-and-fork symbol expanded to 24 new restaurants.

Michelin star worthy restaurants resulted from highly-classified and anonymous visits by specially trained Michelin inspectors, which toured the restaurants all around the country for the past year. The new Michelin Guide Croatia 2018, the most significant and renowned restaurant guide globally, has been released on the Michelin website.

“Croatia is now positioned on the world map of gastronomy, which is certainly well-deserved. Newly-awarded Michelin stars and recommendations of the Croatian restaurants are the tribute to our gastronomical scene that meets the most demanding international quality standards. Michelin is an equivalent of gastronomical excellence, while the Michelin markings indicate an exceptional promotional potential. The destinations where the restaurants received Michelin’s stellar approval and granted access to the exclusive circle of the world’s best restaurants, will strongly value that accomplishment. The Croatian National Tourist Board will continue to implement numerous activities aimed to position our country as an attractive tourist destination with an opulent gastronomical offering,“ said Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board, Kristjan Staničić.

”I extend my sincere congratulations to all selected restaurants, especially to the owners and the staff of restaurants Pelegrini, 360º and Monte, whose effort and creativity were acknowledged by the Michelin inspectors,“ emphasized Mr. Staničić.

This year’s selection confirmed that Croatia attained three Michelin-star restaurants and 55 new recommendations by Michelin guide inspectors. This year also premiers the Michelin Bib Gourmand distinction awarded to the restaurants offering a quality menu for affordable prices.  Four new restaurants in Croatia met the criteria: Konoba Mate (Korčula), Dunav (Ilok), Vuglec Breg (Krapina) and Konoba Fetivi (Split). New Michelin recommendation expanded the Michelin map from Istria, Dubrovnik and Zagreb, which were inscribed last year, to a range of other destinations such as:  Šibenik, Split, Ilok, Korčula, Krapina, Lovran, Osijek, Varaždin, Velika Gorica, Zadar and others.

Croatian restaurants included in the reputable Michelin selection give a strong impetus to a continuous development of the local gastronomical scene and an extensive promotion of Croatia as a top gourmet destination, globally. The first-ever restaurant in Croatia to be awarded a famous Michelin Star was Monte in Rovinj, which joined the ranks of elite restaurants in 2017, and retained its Michelin-star status in 2018.
